Costa Rica's World Cup coach, Jorge Luis Pinto is reportedly fired from his job because of some disagreements with his preferences of his backroom staff.
"I realised I would not be able to count on conditions to carry out my work," the 61-year-old posted on his personal website last Thursday.
The coach has helped the Los Ticos reach the quarterfinals during the last tournament, and that is a first time for the nation. In fact, it is the farthest they have ever reached in the whole history of their national football team.
Now, it seems as if they can never do it again, with Coach Pinto's absence.
"It wasn't possible to reach an agreement," the Colombian coach added. "I ask myself, 'What use are the victories obtained in Brazil?".
"Some of my staff don't have my style. I've had differences with my staff, I want dedication and commitment," he told the news conference.
"A year and a half ago a member of my staff told President Lee to get rid of me, that with me we weren't going to the World Cup. I slept with the enemy for a year and a half.
"It hurts me to leave Costa Rica because I did an outstanding job here. I demanded the staff be dismissed and they didn't accept," said Pinto.
The coach's contract expired after the World Cup this July.
Nevertheless, the federation of the Los Ticos seems cold about the issue. President Eduardo Lee had only said the Costa Ricans "would always be grateful" to Pinto.
"I want to thank Pinto with all my heart for his work which no doubt was the key to obtaining the successes we got in Brazil," the federation president added. "Unfortunately we couldn't agree on some aspects."
The next World Cup would be on 2018 in Russia, and everyone would expect the Costa Rica team to improve more because of their surprising performance for this year.
