Carl Nicks Part Ways with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Two-time Pro Bowl guard Carl Nicks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has mutually agreed to part ways after Nicks had two disappointing season. The 29 year old athlete was injured during the seasons in which he was only able to play nine games after he had signed a five year contract worth $47.5 million with the team.

Although General Manager Jason Licht declined to comment on the details of their conversation with Nicks, Licht said that Nicks did everything he could in order to put his injury behind of him and tried his best to rejoin the team. He said "'He wanted what we best for the Buccaneers. He didn't want to lead us down the wrong path. The whole time we were hopeful he could play. Carl was honest with us. We were honest with Carl."

During his last team, New Orleans Saints, Nicks never missed out on any game for four seasons. However, when he signed with the Buccaneers, he had an injury on his left toe coupled by the recurrence of a MRSA infection also on his left foot, kept him from playing for the Bucs.

He said "I'd like to thank the Buccaneers organization for working with me as I have attempted to get myself back on the football field. However, after careful consideration, I have made the decision to step away from the game." He added "This was by no means an easy decision, but I believe that it is what is best for me and my family as well as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers."

Since Nicks has decided to leave the team, new coach Lovie Smith will have one more spot to fill. He said "It's a shame we didn't get a chance to work with him on the football field. Carl worked hard this summer to get back, and sometimes your body just won't allow you to do that. ... I understand the decision he had to make"

On the other hand, during the team's practice, lightning strike during the ninth minute and they had to move out of the field. It them two hours before they were able to get back but was again force back to get inside after forty minutes.

For Coach Smith, it was a "Tough Day" but they were able to manage and do individual works for the team.
