Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton gets back to Practice after Surgery

Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton joined full practice last Friday at Fan Fest right after undergoing surgery last March. Newton surgically repaired his ankle saying though his ankle is getting better but it is not yet fully healed. Newton had surgery after he felt that there was soreness on his left ankle. He tried to observe his ankle for a couple of month but there was no improvement that is when he decided to go with the surgery.

Newton showed great passes though he was struggling with his footwork and timing. During practice, he was running well but seemed to take a toll as he slowly limped towards awaiting fans in the stadium.

According to Newton "I can't stress enough that I'm not 100 percent yet." Carolina's trainer Ryan Vermillion came up to him at one point just to check how he was feeling on his ankle but according to the QB it was all for precautions and that his rehab is right on schedule. He said "It's just going to take treatment and time."

Coach Ron Rivera has told reporters that they will take it slow with Newton and that they are happy to see him in practice saying "It was good to see Cam out there. He's a little rusty in terms of his quarterback to running back exchange. But he's working himself back in and he has to work those techniques. But it was nice to see him make some nice throws."

But Rivera also saw that Newton needs to work on his footwork. He said "A big thing is developing that footwork and getting that flexibility back in that ankle. As he practices and goes through day by day we have to be smart with it. I think he will work back into shape pretty soon."

Newton showed his fans that he is doing well right after his injury by successful completing a 40 yard pass to rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin. Newton felt great triumph of the Fan Fest saying "We are expecting this turnout every time. They hold us accountable and we have to put a great product out there."
