Premier League Friendlies 2014: Manchester United vs Roma; Rooney Wins The Game At 3-2

Wayne Rooney slightly reddems himself from a disastrous World Cup performance after scoring two time under 45 minutes in a preseason friendly between Manchester United and Roma.

The other goal for Manchester was delivered by Juan Mata, while Roma goaled twice through Miralem Pjanic and Francesco Totti.

The English team won 7-0 last Thursday over the LA Galaxy, but this one with Roma is obviously a more realistic game.

However, Manchester coach Louis van Gaal expressed his disappointment with the match today.

"I think we don't play a good match because I don't know, maybe the height of the stadium, the air... All my good passers failed today.

"That's not normal. The ball was bubbling every time. I think that when you see Mata and [Ander] Herrera and [Shinji] Kagawa they are best passers and everything went wrong. It is in the air."

"We are not used to this hot weather.

"I don't think it's very wise. American has a top sport climate and then you have to play football at the right time. I'm sorry to say that." The place was actually elevated at 5,280 ft, but it is not that high.

Rooney admitted earlier this week that he wanted the team's captaincy, but he also said that he will respect whatever decision Van Gaal will make for the team.

"Of course I would like the captaincy but it's the manager's decision who he chooses. He wants to work with the players and then choose a captain from there.

"I don't think he was ever going to just walk in and choose a player from the off. I'm sure he will look at the players now and make his decision in a couple of weeks.

"Louis van Gaal has been great. I've only had a few days but he's a strong guy who has been good in training and it's been enjoyable."
