While there are exhaustive efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak, a new country has been reportedly exposed to the deadly virus.

The Ebola outbreak started in February 2014 in Guinea. Within weeks, it has already reached other African countries like Liberia and Sierra Leone. Experts now fear that Nigeria might be exposed to the deadly virus after an infected plane passenger entered the country.

The Guardian reports: "In Nigeria, officials announced on Friday that a Liberian official had died of Ebola after flying from Monrovia to Lagos raising fears that other passengers could take the disease beyond Africa."

News of Nigeria being the new country infected with the Ebola virus alarmed people globally.

It is suspected that the other passengers in the plane could also be infected with the virus without them knowing, and could eventually bring the virus to their country of origin.

In an article published by Daily Mail UK, Professor Hugh Pennington from the University of Aberdeen, said: "If the disease gets going in Nigeria it would be cause for concern. Nigeria has close links with the UK and many other countries."

The article continued: "Nigeria, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are now screening air passengers - but doctors say this may not be effective because Ebola has an incubation period of two to 21 days and cannot be diagnosed on the spot."

A person infected with the Ebola virus may not show symptoms for three weeks. Symptoms could include high fever and bleeding.

As of the moment, there is no known vaccine or cure for the Ebola outbreak which can be spread by coming into contact with infected blood or bodily fluids. The Ebola virus kills 90% of its victims.
