Gennady Golovkin keeps WBA middleweight title

It was an easy fight for the young Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin. Golovkin successfully retained his WBA middleweight championship belt last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. His opponent, Daniel Geale was no match for the stronger Golovkin as he was easily defeated during the third round at the 2:47 minute.

According to Tom Loeffler of K2 promotions "It's the biggest name that will get in the ring with him. That's our target. Miguel had a victory. He and Gennady Golovkin would be the biggest fight in the Garden and it's a unification fight."

But it seems like the 32 year old fighter wants to test his strength as he called on Miguel Cotto to a fight saying "I want to fight him next and prove to the world without a doubt that I'm the best middleweight in the world. That is very important to me."

Golovkin has a record of 30 fights all in all. He has not lost any of his fights and had 27 of them won by KO. Currently, he has a 90% knockout rate right after having had his 17 straight knockouts win.

Golovkin winning moment during the third round was when he was hit by Geale and he struck back with a right hand to his opponent's nose followed by a left. With that, Geale fell and the referee decided to stop the game.

According to Golovkin, "It was a big step fighting in the arena and I'm happy to be performing for the fans. I was patient in the first round and part of the second. This is my style but once I figured him out, I was able to attack aggressively. I knew it was a matter of time."

He added "It was difficult to time Geale because he was coming in and out."

Trainer Abel Sanchez said. "Gennady hit him with a perfect left-right (combination) and the fight was over."

On the other hand, Geale's trainer said "I don't think there's anyone at 160 who can go 12 rounds with Gennady. I think that knockout streak will go on for a long time."

Golovkin opponent Geale felt like he fell on Golovkin trap and that he was complacent with the game saying "I was disappointed in myself. Things were going right early on. I guess that's what happens when you relax a little bit. I got caught."
