Casting rumors about Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange has been circulating in the film and entertainment world since Marvel announced an adaptation for the superhero.

It all started with Latino Review's tweet about an "interesting choice" for Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme casting.

Deadline earlier speculated the titular casting to include Tom Hardy and Cumberbatch in the short list. Jared Leto was eventually mentioned later on, but as a favorite among geeks, the 'Sherlock' star became the ideal choice.

More speculations arose when Cumberbatch popped in at the San Diego Comic Con for the first time to promote 'Penguins Of Madagascar,' as the voice for a high ranking animal CIA agent. Noting that it was too obscure a role for the British actor his "pop his Comic Con cherry for."

Almost everyone was expecting him to walk up the stage during the Marvel panel. He didn't.

He did, however, join his 'The Hobbit' cast buddies to greet fans and give out autographs (and take selfies with everyone).

In an in interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz during the San Diego Comic Con last week, he finally addressed the Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange rumors-albeit coyly.

"As far as I'm aware, even if that was the case, it couldn't work out because I'm doing a little play called 'Hamlet' in London," the 'Penguins Of Madagascar' voice actor said. "So I don't think I could even if that was in the cards."

It isn't completely out of his radar, though.

He added, "It sounds like a fantastic project. It's a shame if I miss out, but who knows?"

When asked if Marvel, in anyway, officially contacted him about the Stephen Strange role, he only had one thing to say: "I couldn't possibly comment."

Whether it' a confirmation of a possible Marvel casting or not, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange would definitely have to wait. The award-winning actor already has 'The Hobbit,' 'Penguins Of Madagascar,' 'The Imitation Game,' and not to mention his commitment to BBC's hit series, 'Sherlock' slated for the next couple of years.
