Facebook news update 2014: Facebook visitors suffer interruption this Friday. According to ZDnet, the social network site had a brief outage in the early afternoon across both its web and mobile channels. Users were sharply turned away starting around 9AM PT/12PM ET. Reuters reported that the outage affected multiple countries such as the United States, Chile and India. It was not immediately clear how widespread the disruption was.

Users who attempted to access Facebook were not led to their usual home screen or login page, but to an error message. The message that appeared was "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can."

According to Fox Business, the site reassured users that the company was working to fix the problem and restore its service.

"We're aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible." a Facebook spokesperson responded.

Reportedly, Facebook Inc appeared to come back online within about half an hour and said that the service to the world's largest online social network was fully restored already.

"Earlier this morning, some people had trouble accessing Facebook for a short time. We quickly investigated and have fully restored service for everyone. We're sorry for the inconvenience," Facebook said in an emailed statement.

ZDnet noted that the reason for the downtime is not yet clear. It is unsure if it is a datacenter-related issue or the result of external parties. According to Reuters Facebook Inc is still investigating the incident. A person familiar with the matter said that all signs suggest a "technical" failure rather than any suspicious activity.

This is the second time that Facebook experienced outage within 2 months. According to Wall Street Pit, the site experienced a serious server crash on June 19 that lasted 30 minutes. Forbes reported the brief blackout cost the social network $500,000 in lost ad revenue.
