Fans will finally get to see Daniel Radcliffe's 'What If' in selected cinemas this August 8 while its wide release is set on August 22.

The new romantic comedy is the first contemporary role that the former child star is taking on. He plays Wallace, a medical school dropout who's jaded about love. He finds himself falling for Chantry (Zoe Kazan) who's already committed to Ben (Rafe Spall).

It’s the first time I’ve either not played a wizard or somebody who has been dead for many, many, many, many years,” the 25-year-old actor told LA Times about his fresh character.

The British actor added, “There was something very attractive about playing a normal guy, someone you might meet.”

Radcliffe, who is currently trying to create a career outside of his 'Harry Potter' reputation, has been taking on challenging roles like a haunted lawyer in 'Woman In Black' and a historical role in 'Kill Your Darlings.' What attracted the young actor to 'What If' wasn't a radical story but the fun script and group of people.

"Where most romantic comedies sort of squeeze out complexities from the plot, this movie embraces them," he told the San Francisco Chronicles.

He added, "I hadn't necessarily meant to do a romantic comedy but the script had me at about from the second page.”

Daniel Radcliffe's 'What If' stint also gave him the chance to “improvise a bit” and “bring my own sense of humor.” His “real” job, apparently, was to make Zoe Kazan laugh every day.

When asked about his wide-range of role portrayals since 'Potter,' the actor said that he just wanted to make up for lost times.

"I played one character for 10 years,” Radcliffe said about his acting history. “I remember being 19 years old and looking round at other younger actors coming through and feeling envious at all of the different bits of work they'd gotten to do."

The actor also revealed to the San Francisco Chronicles that he really loves the film industry, having spent a considerable amount of his life on the set of 'Harry Potter.'

"There's nothing I like more than being on set. I can't imagine a life without it,” the experimental actor said. He still hopes to get make a lot more movies in the future.

For now, fans can see a friendzoned Daniel Radcliffe in 'What If' on Friday.
