American Idol Season 7 finalist Michael Johns has died. He was 35.
Johns' family and the US TV network Fox have issued statements to confirm the news on Saturday. The TV network has described Johns as an incredible talent. The statement adds that the network is "deeply saddened by the news of his passing. He was a part of our American Idol family and he will be truly missed."
However, the network did not give details on the actual cause of the death. In one of its news reports, Hollywood Reporter said the death was due to a blood clot in Johns' ankle. He was reportedly complaining about the swelling of his ankle a day before he died. Reports claim that he even went to a doctor to have it checked, but he was also sent home after the check-up.
In their statement, Johns' family they appreciate the support from all over the world. The music industry, particularly, is grieving over the death of the young artist.
The singer died on Friday, but confirmations were released only on Saturday.
Johns was among the best contestants of the American Idol's season 7. He was never part of the bottom three. A year after the season, Idol released him an album called Hold Back My Heart.
Online users have showed grief over Johns' passing including the judges of American Idol Season 7. In his Twitter account, Simon Cowell paid tribute to Johns calling him as a great guy.
Meanwhile, Paula Abdul, who also served as a judge during the season she is torn up about his passing. "Michael was not just an amazing talent, he was an incredible human being who was so full of life...His echo will live on forever."
David Cook also expressed sadness over what happened: "I'm completely gutted for his family, including his wife, Stacey."
