Fans who have been at “The Hobbit” panel during the Comic-Con were given an Elvish poem as well as a glimpse on the teaser trailer of the final installment of “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”. However, the official trailer won’t be released until October in order for the more detailed visual effects to be finished.

Nevertheless, the scenes featured in the released teaser are already enough to satisfy the curiosity of many middle-earthlings. The clip began with the voice of Bilbo Baggins (played by Martin Freeman), as he shares the forbidding toll of a violent clash.

For those keeping score at home, the five armies of the film’s title include warriors representing the races of Elves, Men, and Dwarves facing off against a host of Goblins and wolf-like Wargs. All throughout the 2-minute teaser, we hear the voice of Pippin (Billy Boyd) singing his haunting lament to Denethor from “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” movie.

The clip features scenes of war, including shots of a fierce Tauriel (Evangeline Lily), a grim Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), as well as a strafing run by the vengeful dragon Smaug. Most interesting is a brief snippet that shows Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) tenderly kissing the brow of a lifeless Gandalf (Ian McKellen).

As darkness falls upon the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men, they must decide to unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

It’s a predictably fast-paced sequence of events that shows more about the mood of the movie without giving away much in the way of plot. But that shouldn’t matter to the millions of fans who’ve waited years to see how Peter Jackson will end his final visit to Middle-earth.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will come to theaters on December 17, 2014
