Which smartphone is the ideal purchase for consumers? We compare the Nokia Lumia 1520 or the Motorola Moto E to see which is better.

For the design and display, the Motorola Moto E is a mid range smartphone with a screen size of 4.3 inches, 16M colors and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It renders a resolution of 540x960pixels and a pixel density of 256ppi. Its dimensions are 124.8×64.8×12.3 mm and it weighs 142 grams.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a 6 inches screen (IPS LCD) which is capable of rendering a resolution of 1080x1920pixels and a pixel density of 367ppi. It’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and like its rival, and supports Multitouch. Its dimensions are 162.8×85.4×8.7 mm and it weighs 209 grams.

In terms of hardware and OS, the Motorola Moto E is a dual SIM smartphone which supports 2G and 3G. It is powered by a 1.2GHz dual core Cortex A7 CPU, based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset and using an Adreno 302 GPU. It has an internal memory of 4GB, expandable up to 32GB and 1GB of RAM, and it runs on the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) OS, but users can upgrade it to the 4.4.4 (KitKat) version.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 runs on the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 OS (upgradeable to the 8.1 version) and has 2GB of RAM. It has a 2.2GHz quad core Krait 400 processor (Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset + Adreno 330 GPU) and it has two variants of expandable internal memories: 16 and 32GB (up to 64GB).

For the battery and camera specs, the Motorola Moto E has a non removable Li-Ion battery with the capacity of 1980mAh. The Nokia Lumia 1520 also has a non removable battery, but it’s Li-Ion and has a capacity of 3400mAh (BV-4BW), which allows up to 25 hours of talk time on 3G.

The Motorola smartphone has only a 5MP camera, which features a 2592х1944 pixels, panorama, geo tagging, HDR and video recording at fw480p@30fps.

The Nokia smartphone has a 20MP rear camera with 4992х3744 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, optical image stabilization, dual-LED flash, 1/2.5” sensor size and 1.12µm pixel size, dual capture, PureView technology, face detection, geo-tagging and paronama, plus video recording at 1080p@30fps, with optical stabilization and stereo sound. It also features a 1.2MP camera on the front, which record videos at 720p@30fps.

The Motorola Moto E cost $130 on amazon.com, while the Nokia Lumia 1520 32GB variant costs $469.
