Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington, who portrays Jon Snow on the HBO series is starring in a WWI romantic drama from BBC Films World.
The actor will be playing the fiancee of Vera Brittain, a man who has been dealt with a tough blow in his life with the onslaught of firstw world war. His character is forced to make a tough choice between his duty to his country, and his ardent love for his future wife.
The story is based on the memoir of British pacifist, feminist, and writer, Vera Brittain, "Testament of Youth" -- which was published in installments over the course of several years.
The first part covered the years of 1900-1925. The next installment, "Testament of Experience" took place from 1925-1950. What would have been the final, concluding part, "Testament of Faith", was planned to be released by the author, but has remained unpublished until her death.
The books are a critically acclaimed chronicle of the war and its impact on the lives of the women, especially those from the middle-class segment of Britian.
The Game of Thrones actor's character, Roland Leighton, sports shorter, slicker hair than the wild tangled mess that Jon Snow wore as a member of the Night's Guard. Not only is the messy hair gone, so is the unkempt facial hair. So did the actor really chop of his locks for this role?
Apparently he did, so as to play more convincingly, his role as a WWI soldier. In the trailer seen below, Leighton is shown signing up for the army, making the choice to leave his fiancee behind.
He justifies his decision with the statement, "How many generations get the chance to be involved in something like this?" he says trying to explain himself.
He adds: "I can't let others do my duty for me."
James Kent (The White Queen) will be directing the movie, and the Game of Thrones actor will be starring opposite Swedish actress Alicia Vikander (The Fifth Estate, Anna Karenina)
