Susan Sarandon fell victim to burglars over the weekend.

The New York City Police Department confirmed that the actress's apartment in downtown Manhattan was robbed. Sarandon was reported to be not at home when the break-in happened late Saturday night.

It was reported that the burglars were able to enter the apartment using a ladder which they propped up in the next door building, according to entertainment website TMZ. Sarandon's son with former partner Tim Robbins, 22-year-old Miles, lives with the actress but had stepped out when the incident occurred.

Miles returned home about 5 a.m. Saturday to find the apartment a complete mess.

Police said the thieves made off with a laptop, a camera and some pieces of jewelry.

Investigators believe that the burglars accessed the apartment's terrace door, but they are still exploring other possibilities. Sarandon's apartment is situated in a brick building, which is nine stories tall.

"No arrests have been made yet but the case is under investigation," the New York Police Department told US Weekly.

The 67-year-old actress, who is dating Jonathan Bricklin, is currently out of town following a busy summer of promotions for her latest comedy film, "Tammy," with Melissa McCarthy.

Sarandon, who is known for starring in popular movies like "Thelma and Louise" and "Dead Man Walking," was born and raised in New York City.

"New York is big, beautiful, bad-ass town that constantly demands rediscovery," the Oscar Award winning actress told Time Out New York in July.
