British star James Corden is being eyed to replace Craig Ferguson on "The Late Late Show," after the latter steps down from his hosting stint this coming December.

The 35-year-old Corden is a Broadway actor who has starred in "One Man Two Guvnors," which earned him a Tony Award back in 2012. He also starred in the cult hit "The Wrong Mans" and the 2006 film "The History Boys," according to News Day.

Multiple sources previously revealed that Corden is already in the final stages of discussion before he could officially close his deal with CBS America. However, even if he lands the job, it is most likely that he will only be hosting "The Late Late Show" for a short period of time, Mirror UK reported.

Still, regardless of the length of his hosting career, Corden's involvement with CBS may potentially merit him several million pounds. Mirror noted that if the gig pushes through, Corden's wife, Julia, and three-year-old son Max may need to transfer to the United States temporarily.

Meanwhile, Ferguson, who has been hosting the late night talk show since 2005, first announced his impending departure from the show back in April. Before him, "The Late Late Show" was previously hosted by David Letterman, who now also has his own talk show.

At that time, Ferguson referenced his departure from the show using Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay front man Chris Martin's newly-coined term, "consciously uncoupling," according to Radio Times.

"CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are 'consciously uncoupling,' but we will still spend holidays together and share custody of the fake horse and the robot skeleton, both of whom we love very much."

As of late, Corden, Ferguson and CBS have not yet commented regarding the news and have not confirmed whether or not the "Gavin & Stacey" star will indeed replace the retiring talk show host.
