Director Michael Bay shows his dismay on a poster for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The design shows the heroes jumping out of a collapsing building and the release date is 9/11, in which case brings back the ill memories of the day’s terror attacks 13 years ago.
Bay said that he was just disappointed on the controversial poster. Paramount Australia shared the image of the poster on its Facebook pages and on Twitter early Friday morning. Unfortunately, the poster was greeted with almost immediate ire and disbelief, with some calling the poster offensive while others noted that it was a poor move on the part of Paramount Australia’s marketing department.
'When I woke up and saw that, I said, "Are you kidding me?" That was a silly, dumb mistake,' he said.'Trust me - I yelled at them. Normally everything goes through me, and no one showed me that poster.'
After hearing the words from Michael Bay himself, Paramount Australia decided to delete the post. They also apologized for the mistake that had unintentionally stirred up the anger of many people, especially longtime fans of the franchise.
The studio issued a statement saying 'combining that image and date was a mistake'.
'We are deeply sorry to have used that artwork for the marketing materials promoting the September 11 opening in Australia,' the statement said.
'We intended no offence and have taken immediate action to discontinue its use.'
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars Megan Fox and Johnny Knoxville and will be released in the United States this month and October in Europe. In Australia, however, the film will be on cinemas on September 11, which is coincidentally the 13th year of the 9/11 bombings.
