The much awaited Minecraft 1.8 Update seems to constantly tease millions of players across the globe with the official change log posted on its site. But what should gamers really look forward to with this update despite the unavailability of its release date as of now?
According to the blog, this is the longest wait for a major update to Minecraft since the last update was release last October 25, 2013. Without a doubt, more and more players are expecting better enhancements this time; in fact, the developers announced that this update has had the most development snapshots of any major update so far(43 snapshots).
Some of the additions are the newest splashes, or the yellow lines of text on the title screen (via Minecraft Gamepedia site):
- That's Numberwang!"
- "pls rt"
- "Do you want to join my server?"
- "Put a little fence around it!"
- "Throw a blanket over it!"
- "One day, somewhere in the future, my work will be quoted!"
- "Now with additional stuff!"
- "Extra things!"
- "Yay, puppies for everyone!"
- "So sweet, like a nice bon bon!"
- "Popping tags!"
- "Now With Multiplayer!"
- "Very influential in its circle!"
- "Rise from your grave!"
- "Warning! A huge battleship "STEVE" is approaching fast!"
- "Blue warrior shot the food!"
- "Run, coward! I hunger!"
- "Flavor with no seasoning!"
- "Strange, but not a stranger!"
- "Tougher than diamonds, rich like cream!"
Another change is the difficulty options. As per Mojang, the difficulty in this update will be on a per world basis to prevent accidentally changing the difficulty when joining the world and do away from the temptation to change to an easier level in tough situations.
There is a new achievement called Overpowered as well which can be obtained by crafting an enchanted golden apple.
Some of the fixes included in this update are the debug screen, block IDs, superflat world type, internal block handling, improved chat, rewrote chunk sorting, ported over the visibility culling code from MCPE to avoid rendering invisible stuff, and threaded chunk rebuilds to enhance overall performance and speed up loading time.
A total of 344 bugs were fixed including the following (via Minecraft Gamepedia):
- MC-19- Having FOV over 100 and sleeping in bed will cause you to look inside your head
- MC-71- Mobs don't spawn next to water streams if the x and z coordinates are negative
- MC-1831- Incorrect fire charge noise
- MC-1893- If you sneak, buckets will place water/lava/lily pads at the position you would point at if you weren't sneaking
- MC-2053- Inconsistent door texture
- MC-2071- Pausing the game or opening any GUI in a nether portal does not work
- MC-58961- Back button overlaps kick message
- MC-60665- Creeper vs. potato crop
- MC-61586- Client freezes for ~1 second in multiplayer when opacity of a block changes next to unloaded chunk
- MC-2367- Players can place and remove arbitrary blocks in Adventure mode, breaking pre-1.4.2 maps
