Fans can't wait to see a Marvel female superhero movie because we often see male superheroes get their solo film like "Thor" (Chris Hemsworth) and "Iron Man" (Robert Downey Jr.), so why can't a woman also have one? There are so many awesome characters in the Marvel universe, but still it is dominated by male superheroes.
Out of the five founders of the Avengers, there was only one girl named The Wasp a.k.a. Janet Pym. Out of the nine 1960s recruits, again there was only one girl added and that is Scarlet Witch, which is played by Elizabeth Olsen in the "Avengers 2" movie. The number of female recruits increased in the 1970s with five women being added to the team including the Black Widow, which is portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in all Marvel movies that included her character.
With so many amazing characters to choose from, who do you think will snag the first Marvel female superhero movie? Based on reports, there is a huge possibility that Black Widow will get her solo film. The rumors started when the "Guardians of the Galaxy" co-writer revealed what she has been up to on her Twitter page.
Nicole Perlman wrote, "Hey folks, before rumors get out of hand: I wrote a treatment for Black Widow in 2010/2011, but I am not actively developing it right now." The fact that she had started working on Scarlett Johansson's character means that we may be seeing the first Marvel female superhero movie in the near future.
During an interview with Total Film, Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige teased the fans of a possible solo film for Black Widow. He said, "We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that."
In a separate interview with Comic Book Resources, Kevin Feige tried to explain why there hasn't been any Marvel female superhero movie that has come out yet. The Marvel chief said, "I think it comes down to timing, which is what I've sort of always said, and it comes down to us being able to tell the right story."
Feige reassured the fans, "I very much believe in doing it. I very much believe that it's unfair to say, "People don't want to see movies with female heroes," then list five movies that were not very good, therefore, people didn't go to the movies because they weren't good movies, versus [because] they were female leads. And they don't mention Hunger Games, Frozen, Divergent. You can go back to Kill Bill or Aliens. These are all female-led movies. It can certainly be done."
Now the question is, "When will the first Marvel female superhero movie be released?" Kevin Feige said, "I hope we do it sooner rather than later. But we find ourselves in the very strange position of managing more franchises than most people have ... But it does mean you have to put one franchise on hold for three or four years in order to introduce a new one? I don't know. Those are the kinds of chess matches we're playing right now."
