U.S. Fastest Public WiFi Is At Starbucks

According to a report from OpenSignal, it was found out that Starbucks has the fastest public WiFi in the United States. The store uses a Google-powered in-store WiFi that offers a download speed of 9.01 megabits per second (Mbps). That is much faster than the 6.52 Mbps download speed of an average 4G LTE connection found in smartphones. No wonder many are spending hours at Starbucks sipping more WiFi than coffee. There is apparently more than just good coffee at any Starbucks store.

OpenSignal, an entity that measures cellular and WiFi signal strength in the U.S., has released the report through Quartz. Here are the other details you may find very helpful.

Others, such as McDonald's, Panera Bread, Dunkin' Donuts, Best Buy's, Golden Arches, and Tim Hortons, are among the most used networks across the country. McDonald's has a surprising average speed of 4.18. Golden Arches has 3.87 Mbps. But still, these won't surely fare well with Starbucks. These may allow you to connect with Netflix that only requires 0.5 Mbps, or stream a movie with standard definition that requires 3 Mbps. But surely, you can't have HD viewing of House of Cards that requires a connection with 5 Mbps.

Aside from food establishments, hotels particularly Hilton has fast WiFi speed. If you're the type who loves staying inside the room, you'll surely love its download speed of 8.47 Mbps. Ranked last is Motel 6 with a poor 1.29 Mbps. You can check HotelWifiTest.com if you want to browse the ranking of hotels according to Internet speed. Last year, the New York Times has taken note of the fact that faster WiFi speeds have now become a consideration for businessmen when looking for a hotel.

As it seems, you're in the best place if you're in a hotel with a Starbucks store inside.
