During the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier pre-fight media day, both men were involved in a brawl, but both "Bones" and "DC" continued their verbal tirades behind the camera during the post-incident interview. It went as a far as the champion dishing out a death threat towards his challenger.
While the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier showdown is still more than a month away the intensity between both men has been off the charts. During their media day a week ago, a brawl broke out as both fighters engaged in the customary face-off.
Rightfully so, both the UFC and the Nevada Athletic Commission promised a sanction for both fighters.
"There are going to be ramifications," UFC Chief Legal Officer Kirk Hendrick told MMA Fighting. "Whether you're the champion, or this is your first fight in the UFC, there are going to be ramifications from the UFC for these actions."
The Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier fight is scheduled for UFC 178 on September 27th, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. And while both fighters already made their respective apologies, ESPN SportsCenter released a video of both men trading verbal blows behind the camera.
"You are just the fakest person," Cormier told Jones. "I actually admire that you can actually be this fake, and like, when the TV comes on, how you can just change. It's like you're a chameleon. It's awesome."
The champion then went for a rougher approach in his responses to his challenger.
"The fact that you're a pu**y hasn't changed, but I am a professional," Jones responded.
Irked by how the conversation was going, "DC" went with "Bones'" rough approach and made more snide remarks of his own.
"I wish they would let me next door so I could spit in your f**king face," Cormier said.
This was when things began to heat up further, as Jon Jones responded with a death threat.
"You know I would absolutely kill you if you ever did something like that, right?" Jones said. "I would literally kill you if you spit in my face."
