"Sherlock" cast Benedict Cumberbatch has played a lot of intelligent characters that he already developed what he calls the "smart face." Meanwhile, starring in the London play Hamlet is a realization of his long-time dream.

In an interview with LA Times' Rebecca Keegan, "Sherlock" cast Benedict Cumberbatch was asked if he has a go-to face whenever he plays an intelligent character like the famous detective, or Julian Assange, or even Khan in the "Star Trek: Into The Darkness."

He replied, "yeah" before furrowing his eyebrows and putting his chin on his palm.

"No, it changes. It's about the character. I've been very, very fortunate that there's something going on behind my eyes so that it looks like I'm ... encompassing the brilliance of their minds and ability to concentrate," he said.

However, he admitted that he only has a "very superficial, skin-thin understanding of the science." But brilliant people are no exemptions as they have also self-doubts before achieving greatness in a moment of discovery.

If he has any rule to playing smart characters, "Sherlock" cast Benedict Cumberbatch said, "I try not to pull faces - if I do, it has to be something with the character."

He also revealed to the publication that being tapped to play Shakespeare's Hamlet means a great deal to him.

"I was offered it at school and turned it down to do my 'A' levels and try and get some decent grades," he said. "I'm of an age now where I think it's now or never ,and I've found the right director ... this brilliant female director called Lindsey Turner, who's just a phenomenon."

Last month, Australian Evangeline Lily explained to Sheknows.com why "Sherlock" cast Benedict Cumberbatch's is popular with women.

"Benedict is just as fabulous as you think he is. What's so laughable about the whole love affair the world is having with that handsome man: I love that he's the epitome of intellect," she said.

"He's not a hot guy on a motorcycle. He's so classy, so intellectual, and yet women are just fawning over him. I love that," Evangeline Lily added. "I think it's such a great testament to the myriad different versions of sexy in the world."
