He was attacked from behind but he thought quickly and gathered all his strength. Using his bare hands, a 9-year-old boy from Florida was able to fight off the 182-kg alligator!

James Barney Jr. was biking when he thought about swimming in an off-limits area of Lake Tohopekaliga in St. Cloud, Florida. In an interview with ABC News, he shared that he was scared but still managed to think of hitting it so he can let go. He shared that he jumped, "and I got a little bit of space, of clearance to where I can let go and I slip myself out."

At first, he felt something and thought someone was just trying to play with him. He went down to grab it. He felt the jaw and teeth.

It was fortunate that some people were around the area. After the boy fought off the alligator, he screamed and they were able to hear him. They helped him out of the water. He was airlifted to the hospital.

James is now under treatment but there's nothing to worry about as he is well on the road to his recovery. He has as many as 30 bite marks all over his body but Sandra Ramirez, a Public Information officer, said that they were only trivial.

The surgeon from the Arnold Palmer Hospital was able to pull out a tooth in his leg. He was not scared when he saw it. Instead, he said: "Oh, I want to put it on a necklace so then I can tell all my friends." However, the tooth was taken by animal control so they can look for the alligator that attacked him.

Even though he became well-known as the 'Boy Who Fights off the Alligator', James vowed never to come back in the said place.
