"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" may have just exceeded its projection on the Box Office after it earned a massive $65 million during its first opening weekend.
The film, which was produced by Paramount Pictures, was basically a reboot of the 1980s classic. It was initially pegged at $40 to $50 million, according to Aceshowbiz.
Paramount president of marketing and distribution Megan Colligan released an official statement and said, "The X factor was that families turned out in a really big way. Certainly with the hit animated TV show and a very popular property, kids were enthusiastic. The key for us was getting parents to be as enthusiastic. And they were."
Rentrak's Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian added, "I think the Turtles movie was sort of marginalized from the beginning, and people didn't understand how powerful that brand is, particularly with older audiences. Families and kids have been underserved this entire summer, and this movie offered a fun action-adventure romp."
Meanwhile, following the success of "TMNT," Paramount has also announced the upcoming release of the film's sequel this coming June 3, 2016, Metro UK reported.
Paramount president Adam Goodman said, "Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task because, as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before."
To top off the film's success, a 22-song album under the "TMNT" franchise has also been released and multiple sources dubbed it as the perfect synopsis for the film, AV Club noted.
Some of the songs included on the list are "Turtle Power" by Partners in Kryme, "City of Crime" by Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd, "Goldfinger" by Shirley Bassey and a whole lot more.
