Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps has had no wins during his four competitions in the US Nationals. On his latest race, fellow Olympian Ryan Lochte beat out Phelps to win the 200-meter individual medley.

Both Olympians are still trying to find their form. This is the first major game for Phelps right after his retirement.

On the other hand, Lochte led the race all the way and finished at in 1 minute, 56.50 seconds. He just had a knee injury.

He said "This year has been up and down, but I'm glad I got a win knowing that I really haven't done the work I wanted to. always relied on my training, but this year I haven't done that training so my confidence was low."

Phelps had finished second behind Lochte at 1:56.55 saying "That's a good spot to be. I'm a lot happier with finishing like that than having some of the sub-par performances that I've had throughout the final sessions in this meet."

For the record, Lochte time was the second fastest in the world for this year which puts Phelps as the third time to beat.

Phelps said "If you go out in that race it's pretty painful in the end. I'd rather lose all the national championships that I swim in as long as I'm ready for the big races."

For Lochte, this is his first victory after the five day meet. He won second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 200 backstroke. Lochte said of Phelps "''I guess we can say this is kind of our off-year. , I can say that."

Lochte wore attachable wings with glitzy green high-tops when he took the medals above the stage. He said "I kind of like the wings. ''They're helping me out. I should have worn them all week."

Other record breaking performances were from Katy Campbell who won the 1,500 freestyle in 16:17.59 after world record-holder Katie Ledecky decided not to swim on the meet's final night. Ledecky set a world record in the 400 freestyle on Saturday, giving her world marks in the 400, 800 and 1,500 at the same time.
