"House of Cards" season 3 cast Robin Wright's costume is the secret behind the success of Claire Underwood. If she has a choice, Kevin Spacey's co-star will choose motherhood over career anytime.
In an interview with Backstage magazine, per the Independent, "House of Cards" season 3 cast Robin Wright said that she relies more on gestures and body language in playing Claire Underwood rather than saying long lines. She also said that the secret is in the costume.
"People laugh, but it's true: The minute I put on a pair of Spanx, it's like [snapping her fingers] 'there she is, baby!' That's all it took. I'd never worn Spanx before in my life!" she said.
She also said that she enjoys playing Claire Underwood so much because she's scared by what she's capable of.
"She makes me laugh all the time and then, in an instant, can frighten the hell out of me. Her talent is brilliant and razor-sharp. Her Claire is a character for the ages," "House of Cards" season 3 cast Robin Wright said.
"I'm fortunate to get to work every day with the most powerful woman on television - and certainly in Washington," she added.
Meanwhile, "House of Cards" cast Robin Wright told the Guardian that she had a chance to be Hollywood's darling but she bowed out in favor of motherhood.
"We're well-paid animals in a zoo. And if you agree to play the dog-and-pony show, and smile on the red carpet, and show up at every f---ng envelope that's opened, then you can become a celebrity and become a commodity. But if you choose not to do that, you are seen as not bankable," she said.
When "Forrest Gump" made her a bankable star, she just refused to play the game and faded from the limelight.
"Oh yeah, they wanted to make me America's sweetheart," she said. "But what happened was that I turned down a lot of movies that simply didn't blow my dress up. Plus I was too busy being a mom at the time."
