U.S. captain Tom Watson is still considering Tiger Woods as one of his three wild card options for the Ryder Cup. Every time Watson is asked about his selection, Tiger Woods is always a part of the list as long as he is healthy and playing well.
Though Woods is currently injured and won't be playing for a couple of months, Watson still has his eyes on him. He said "''I can't assess his medical condition and I honestly can't assess how he's playing. It really is going to be having to come from information from Tiger himself. But, again, I don't make this comment loosely. He is Tiger Woods and he brings a lot to the team - if he has the ability to play and he's healthy. He brings a lot to the team. And I'd be a fool not to consider him."
Right after the PGA Championship, there are currently nine players who have qualified to be part of the American Team. Now, Watson only has three weeks to choose among the list to be part of the Ryder Cup which will be on Sept. 26-28 at Gleneagles in Scotland.
According to Watson "I'll be very, very focused on the players who are high up in the ranks."
When asked about Woods, Watson answered "I will continue to speak with Tiger over the next three weeks to monitor his situation. Obviously, he has not been playing well. But I think it's been a result, as you well know, of his injury and his coming back from back surgery."
It has been more than a year since Woods has won a championship and this year has been hard for him with his injury and surgery that kept him from playing at his best.
Watson has been open about his opinion of Woods saying "He is Tiger Woods. He brings something to the team in a big way. He's been really good in the team room of recent and he's a factor with the players. I know that for a fact. He's a very positive influence on the players. But the most important thing is can he play? Can he physically play and is he playing well? Get back to those two points. Like I said, I'll monitor that situation in the next three weeks."
