Crewe manager Steve Davis was more than happy after seeing his side rally to their victory 2-0 at Barnsley in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
Billy Waters and Matt Tootle scored the goals that gave Crewe the victory after they went through some early pressure with Keith Treacy posing a threat on his Barnsley debut.
Summer signing Sam Winnall also had a couple of chances of showing luster in his performance which he failed to make the most of while Cinir Hourinahe volleyed wide.
Davis said: "I was delighted. It was a good performance.
"Barnsley had a couple of decent chances but you need a bit of luck and I felt our football was good."
"We controlled good parts of the game and took our chances when they came our way."
"I thought the goals we scored were good. We're still a bit short on numbers so we're going to bring some more in."
"I don't really want to start talking about a cup run because I've done that previously and it hasn't worked out."
"I think we just need to enjoy the result and hope for a decent draw."
Despite of the defeat, Barnsley boss Danny Wilson was not too down-hearted. He said, "I thought there was some excellent play at times, believe it or not. I thought both teams wanted to win the game."
He said that the defining thing was that they did not take their chances and he had lost count how many they have had. "We've got to start putting those chances away because that's what happens in matches," he added.
"I was disappointed with the goals we conceded. We have to work on the defensive side and be tighter, certainly out of possession."
"We've got to quickly start winning games. Young lads have to learn very quickly; otherwise some of the old-timers in this league will punish you."
"I thought James Bree looked very accomplished. He just makes good decisions."
"I think we have to be flexible in lots of things we do. I wanted an extra striker on. Keith Treacy created some chances and had some good efforts on goal himself."
