"Sherlock" cast Benedict Cumberbatch's "Hamlet" production nearly sold out as the play is scheduled to run in August 2015.
The scheduled start is still a year away, but judging from the ticket demands, it has become the hottest production in the United Kingdom, ticketing website Viagogo said on Twitter. The tickets went on sale this past Monday and the show is almost sold out.
According to E! News, "Sherlock" cast Benedict Cumberbatch's "Hamlet" at London's Barbican Theatre is even more popular than Beyone and Jay Z's "On The Run" tour. It will start from August 5, 2015 to October 31, 2015 for a 12-week run.
Quoting the ticketing website, Forbes said that hours after the tickets were made available to fans, there were "214 percent more searches" for "Sherlock" cast Benedict Cumberbatch's "Hamlet" production compared to Beyonce and Jay Z's "On The Run" tour, which is on break. The power couple's tour made more than $100 million.
The ticket demand was even more surprising because of the high ticket prices. According to Viagogo, each ticket for the chance to see Benedict Cumberbatch reprise one of Shakespeare's more famous plays costs $583.
That's five times compared to the retail price of most London productions.
Although Benedict Cumberbatch is best known for his "Sherlock" series, the actor commands a massive female following.
Benedict Cumberbatch's sexy charms earned for him a fifth spot in Glamour magazine's "Sexiest Men of 2013" and No. 1 in Empire magazine's "100 Sexiest Movie Stars" survey. He was also voted UK Sun's "hottest bloke in Britain" in 2012 and 2013.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Sherlock" cast Benedict Cumberbatch's "Hamlet" production is outselling "A Streetcar Named Desire," with "X-Files" star Gillian Anderson at the lead, by four to one.
"The tragedy has instead become the success story for theater in 2015. But will Benedict be or not be a worthy Hamlet - that is the question," a Viagogo rep toldTHR in a statement.
