Breaking up is hard to do-especially in a k-drama. Lately, several k-dramas have focused on couples getting back together after a break-up or divorce. A recurring theme in k-dramas is that some couples are fated to be together and no matter how they try to avoid each other they were destined to meet. And in some cases that fate is so strong that it will survive a break-up or even a divorce.
These dramas may also reflect the rising rates of divorce around the world and in Korea. As sad as break-ups and divorces can be in real life, it's nice to see that k-drama characters can resolve their differences and reconcile.
In the past year viewers have enjoyed the comic antics of couples that broke up then made up in "Emergency Couple" and "Cunning Single Lady."
In "Emergency Couple," Choi Jin Hyuk and Song Ji Hyo are exes that find themselves working together in the same hospital emergency department. Being forced to interact helps them rediscover why they fell in love in the first place.
In "Cunning Single Lady," Lee Min Jung and Joo Sang Wook divorce, leaving her to resolve their debts. When she finds out he has become a successful businessman, she schemes for revenge and the couple wind up falling for each other again.
On a more serious note, last year's melodrama "One Warm Word," featured two couples that were on the brink of divorce because of an affair between the husband in one relationship and the wife in another. Both consider filing for divorce and one of the spouses moves out, though miraculously at the very end, both couples decide to stay together.
And exes are still a hot topic. In "Fated To Love You" Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara seem fated to wind up in a fake marriage but eventually decide to divorce. However, their feelings for each other are real and they miss each other. A reunion seems more than likely.
The latest drama in the break-up then make-up trend is "My Secret Hotel." In this mystery romance Yoo In Na is the head wedding planner at a top hotel and one day finds she is called on to arrange her ex's nuptials. The couple was together for only 100 days but Jin Yi Han left such an impression on her, she can't easily forget him. Will he win out over her current boyfriend?
And how about the main characters in "Temptation?" Will "Temptation" follow suit and reunite Kwon Sang Woo and Park Ha Sun, who divorced early on in the drama? What do you think?
