A Lady Gaga Instagram post had the online world abuzz as the singer's selfie showed an eerie resemblance to the late Amy Winehouse. The pop star paid tribute to the late musician by posting the lookalike photo last weekend, and recently defended the "Rehab" singer by saying that "everyone was so hard on her".

Entertainment Tonight reported the Lady Gaga Instagram post, which showed her donning Amy Winehouse's famous teased, puffed-up hair and heavy eye make-up.

The said Lady Gaga Instagram post was captioned: "Off to Australia. Will be dreaming of my Aussie Monsters." The singer was referring to her Australian tour, which begins at Perth Areana on Wednesday.

Amy Winehouse's lifeless body was discovered at her home in London, England on July 23, 2011. She was 27 years old.

Police reports said the death was due to alcohol intoxication, recalled Entertainment Tonight.

Lady Gaga recently shared about Amy Winehouse's positive influence on her career.

At a guest appearance for "The View" earlier this month, Lady Gaga narrated how she was so devastated after learning about the Grammy winner's death that she couldn't speak for 48 hours.

"I think the most unfortunate thing about it all is the way that the media spins things, like we can learn from Amy's death. I don't feel that Amy needed to learn any lessons," she shared.

"I felt that the lesson was for the world to be kinder to the superstar. Everybody was so hard on her, and everything that I knew about her was that she was the most lovely and nice and kind woman," Lady Gaga said.

A report from Huffington Post said Lady Gaga wrote to her fans after Amy Winehouse died, saying the talented yet troubled singer "changed pop music forever."

"I remember knowing there was hope, and feeling not alone because of her. She lived jazz, she lived the blues," Lady Gaga shared.
