Randy Couture news reveals that "The Natural" was actually picked as a back up for Chael Sonnen to headline the recently concluded Metamoris 4 event. The former UFC two-division champion is also open to the possibility of facing Fedor Emelianenko in a BJJ match under the said event.
Two weeks ago, professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organization Metamoris held its fourth event in Los Angeles headlined by grappling legend André Galvao, and former UFC title contender Chael Sonnen. Much to the expectation of BJJ aficionados, Galvao ended up defeating "The American Gangster" via rear-naked choke.
However, Randy Couture news reveals that "The Natural" was supposedly contacted as a possible back up to fill in for Sonnen, should he be forbidden by the Nevada Athletic Commission to go through with the competition.
In February and June, the Athletic Commission due to two failed drug tests sanctioned "The American Gangster" with a two-year suspension from fighting, which initially included grappling competitions. Subsequently, Couture was called in as a possible replacement if the sanction pushes through.
However, in a report by Sherdog, "The Natural" was unable to commit due to his obligations filming "The Expendables 3".
"Due to previous obligations, which include an "Expendables 3" press junket on Saturday and Sunday and the Los Angeles premiere of the film on Monday -- as well a "Gym Rescue" premiere on Sunday -- Couture simply could not clear his schedule enough to compete at Metamoris in place of Sonnen," the report reads.
Randy Couture news also reveals that the UFC Hall-of-Famer is not closing his doors from competing in a grappling match like Metamoris. In fact, he revealed that he is willing to face the man who was once considered as the "Greatest Mixed Martial Artist Of All Time", Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelinanenko.
"That would be interesting and certainly given the time to prepare and get back up into good, solid grappling and wrestling shape, that would be a lot of fun and I think, you know," Couture said in an interview with Submission Radio. "I'm not sure how active Fedor is at this stage, you know him being retired as well, but I'm certainly no opposed to an idea like that."
