Actor Jackie Chan's son Jaycee Chan was arrested on suspicion of using and possessing marijuana, according to The Independent.
The 32-year-old actor and singer tested positive for marijuana on Monday and police found 100 grams of the drug at his home. Police reportedly also arrested a Taiwanese movie star, Ko Chen-tung, after a test found that he participated in using the drug as well.
Jaycee Chan and Ko were arrested in central Beijing after police got a tip-off from residents, the Global Times reported. The arrest of these two celebrities has brought further attention to the increasing use of drugs in China, particularly synthetic drugs like methamphetamine, ketamine and ecstasy.
President Xi Jinping declared that illegal drugs should be wiped out and that offenders would be severely punished. More than 7,800 people have been caught in the crackdown in just Beijing, according to police.
Surprisingly, Jackie Chan was named an anti-drug ambassador by China in 2009 and Ko was part of an anti-drug campaign two years ago as well.
After the highly publicized arrest, Jaycee Chan's management company, M'Stones International, apologized on his behalf for the "social impact" he caused, in a statement posted on their website, according to the Seattle PI.
The company reportedly stated that they would "supervise his rehabilitation and help him return to the right path."
Aside from using and possessing marijuana, Chan is reportedly also accused of accommodating drug users, which carries a maximum sentence of three years behind bars.
