Which smartphone is worth the purchase? We pit the Samsung Galaxy S5 against the LG G3 to see which device is better.

In terms of design and display, the LG G3 has a plastic body with a metallic finish, which supposed to be scratch resistant and should not attract fingerprints. It also comes in five different colors: red, violet, gold, white and black. It has 5.5 inch screen, Quad HD display with a 2560 x 1440p (538 ppi pixel density). The LG device dimensions are 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9mm and weighs 149 grams.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 on the other hand, has a perforated back with a dimple-soft finish. It has a good grip when holding it in the hand. Even though it might not have a premium look, it does feel nice in the hand because of the material and also has a IP67 water and dust resistance. It also comes in four different colors: white, gold, blue and black. The Samsung unit has the following measurements of 142 x 72. 5 x 8.1 mm, with a 5.1 inch screen.It renders a resolution of 1920 x 1080p (432 ppi pixel density) HD screen and weighs 145 grams.

For hardware and OS, both smartphones have the Quad-Core 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and the Adreno 330 GPU.

The Samsung unit has 2GB of RAM, while the LG unit comes in two versions: the 2GB version and the 3GB version. THe LG smartphone's Internal storage will also vary – the 2GB version will have 16 GB of internal memory while the 3GB version will have 32GB of internal memory. The Samsung Smartphone is also available in the 16 GB and 32 GB internal memory versions.

The biggest advantage that users will have with both versions is that they are both expandable to 128GB via Micro SD card slots. Rumor has it that the G3 will support up to 2TB and both smartphones run on the Android 4.4.2 Kitkat but feature different UI. The G3 has an LG Optimus UI whereas the S5 has TouchWiz.

For battery and camera specs, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a Li-Ion 2800mAh battery, while the LG G3 has a Li-Ion 3000mAh battery.

The Samsung unit has a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera, fast auto focus which uses face detection, real-time HDR and live camera for videos and selective focus options. It also has a 2.0MP 1080p front facing camera. The LG G3 has a 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, Dual LED flash and laser auto focus. It also has a 2.1MP 1080p front facing camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 cost £500 or $600 off contract, while the LG G3 is around £550 or $650 off contract
