Cristiano Ronaldo injured while James Rodriguez substituted for him

It was a tight match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid as their match ended with a draw during the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Tuesday.

Star player of the World Cup, James Rodriguez started off as a bench but was called out to the field during the half time to replace another star player who had an injury. Rodriguez substituted for Cristiano Ronaldo when the World Player of the Year had a muscle injury.

Rodriguez' substitution was a blessing for Real Madrid as he secured the first goal for the team during the 10 minutes of his time.

But Atletico was not the one to falter as Raul Garcia made an equalizer shot when he flicked home a late corner from close range.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was worried that Ronaldo's injury would cause him playing time for the season. He said "He had a strain after the first-half and he wasn't comfortable. We will evaluate him tomorrow and do all the proper checks, but it doesn't appear anything too serious."

Although Ancelotti sees how strong Atletico is, he is sure that his team will be able to surpass them. He said "Atletico have a small advantage bcecause we have to score in the Calderon. We have the potential to score goals at the Calderon and we will try. If we repeat the way we played today we will win the Super Cup."

On the other hand, Atletico coach Diego Simeone was surprised that Angel di Maria was not on the starting lineup of the team but came in as a substitute. He believes that di Maria is a much vital player to the team compared to Ronaldo.

He said "In the first-half despite defending close to our area we had three or four chances to score a goal. The second half was more or less the same, with a little bit better play from Madrid with the introduction of Di Maria. That was logical because he is the best player they have. It is a important draw and allows us to play a for the trophy at home with a 50-50 chance."
