US Team fans as well as the team coach was caught off guard after Kevin Durant made a decision to withdraw from the US National team.
According to Durant's statement "This was an extremely difficult decision as I take great pride in representing our country. I know that I owe it to my USA Basketball teammates to be totally invested in the experience. After going through training camp with USAB, I realized I could not fulfill my responsibilities to the team from both a time and energy standpoint."
But the US Team is already passed the Durant withdrawal and is now focused in bringing home the championships. According to U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski "I'm through talking about Kevin. We're done with that. We're on to this group. What a coach does, a coach coaches who he has, not who he doesn't have. You're married, you're with that woman, you're not thinking about who you dated."
Krzyzewski was expecting Durant to be the leader of the team "But hopefully we'll be good enough on Saturday, and then we use New York and Gran Canaria to get better and get better during pool play."
Durant pulled out late last Aug 7 right after they had finished a workout sessions in Las Vegas saying "I think for myself, I just needed to take a step back."
But the team has said that they have moved on from it. Anthony Davis said "We've got to play. We can't sit around and mope because he dropped out."
Even though Durant is a great player and that he can definitely help the team, they are not worried at all and will face Spain with no fear. USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo said "If you're competitive and you have a job to do and you have a goal, and that is to win another gold medal. You take the hits, you take the lumps, take somebody else and let's go."
The team is more determined is focus in winning and a lot of fans are looking forward to their game. But the team would definitely have to work double time as they had lost quite a handful of key players.
