It seemed like the Cleveland Browns are torned between quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel. Cleveland first-year coach Mike Pettine said that he has not decided yet on his Week 1 starting quarterback.
Since Manziel and Hoyer are both playing as QB, there has been stiff competition between the both of them. Both have been progressing quite well during the practice. Pettine said "They've both made improvement, and I think they're both doing a great job of playing to their skill sets. It's obviously very different, what they bring to the table. I think Brian's starting to feel very comfortable in the pocket."
But Pettine said that it is not his fault why he has not made a decision as both Hoyer and Manziel have not impressed him that they deserved the job. Many has been expecting Pettine to make the decision between the two quarterback but it seems like Pettine is taking his time.
Pettine said Cleveland's coaching staff will conduct a meet on Wednesday night and they could then choose a starter, or not.
He said "We're not in position to make it at this point in time. We'll decide later if we're ready to name a starter. We could have one named, and I'm not ruling that out. That's something we're going to discuss. And if we do have to wait until after the next game, so be it."
He added "We're going to weigh everybody's opinion. I'm very clearly on record: I would like to make a decision, and that's still very much a possibility."
When asked whether Manziel recent middle finger controvery will be a basis for his decision making he answered "We'll take into account all things quarterbacks A to Z. 'So it's body of work, it's everything from the time they set foot in the building back in the spring up until today."
But according to Pettine, It isn't just the QB that has been having an unsatisfactory performance. He said "There were a lot of guys that had some plays they'd want to take back. I just think it was overall inconsistency on the offense. It's hard for a quarterback to look good when the guys around them aren't playing well."
