Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos believes that fellow Brazilian and UFC fighter Fabricio Werdum has a good chance in winning and dethroning current champ Cain Velasquez.
Dos Santos has fought against Velasquez three time before and basing from his experience, Werdum can win the fight this coming November.
He said "As a Brazilian, I will root for Werdum to bring the UFC title back to Brazil, but he has a difficult task ahead of him. Velasquez is an impressive fighter with a great cardio, but I know Werdum is training really hard for that. He stands a chance, yes. If he fights like he did the last time [against Travis Browne], he has a good chance at winning."
Werdum is not a newbie to fighting. He has won four straight fights which earned him the chance to fight for a title bout against Velasquez. Both fighters will commence at Mexico City on November 15 and will be featured as the main event of UFC 180.
On the other hand, Velasquez last match was still in October 2013 where he fought against Dos Santos and won. Since then, he has been out of the octagon due to a shoulder injury.
This will give Velasquez enough room to be on top shape. Dos Santos said "I think [the champion's lay-off] might help Werdum. But it doesn't happen very often these days because the level of training in the gym is so high now, so you can get ready for a fight even if you haven't fought in a while. I think it won't be an issue for Velasquez, but can be good for Werdum."
On the other hand, Dos Santos has also not fought since his defeat from Velasquez in Oct 2013. It was a tough blow for Dos Santos as it was his second loss to Velasquez in a span of a year.
Dos Santos has an MMA record of 19 fights with 16 wins and 3 losses. He is a Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and had 12 of his wins finished by knockout while two was by submission and another two by decision.
