Gennady Golovkin is quickly climbing the ladder of success. He is making his west coast debut this coming Oct. 18 for his scheduled boxing match against Marco Antonio Rubio. He will be defending his WBA middleweight title at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Golovkin has a very impressive boxing record of 30 fights with no losses at all and has 27 on those win won by KO.

Promoter Tom Loeffler intentionally chose his fight in California in order to expose Golovkin to a new audience. The four times that he has fought in the US, it has all been in New York.

According to Loeffler "This is a strategic step in developing him into the sport's next superstar. We've had a lot of success on the East Coast and some great reaction. But there has been a big demand from the fans in California, particularly in Los Angeles, and this is a perfect match against Rubio."

Loeffler also confessed that he tried pairing Golovkin to WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch but the talks did not push through so they decided to move on to fight Rubio.

Golovkin last fight was just last month which was held at the Madison Square Garden when he knocked Daniel Geale out during the third round of the match.

Golovkin winning moment during the third round was when he was hit by Geale and he struck back with a right hand to his opponent's nose followed by a left. With that, Geale fell and the referee decided to stop the game.

Loeffler added "I think the bout with Daniel Geale answered any questions about Gennady there might have been in the ring. Geale was a two-time champion and he'd beaten guys like [Felix] Sturm and [Robert] Stieglitz, but Gennady stopped him in three rounds."

"Rubio is one of the top-rated middleweights and he's definitely the top middleweight from Mexico and that should make for a pretty good event."

On the other hand, Rubio has a record of 59-6-1 with 51 KOs. He's lost only twice in the past seven years, to Kelly Pavlik in 2009 and to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in 2012.
