There's a new Flappy Bird game around; will Swing Copters be the next addictive app for smartphones?

The new Flappy Bird game is now available for iOS and Android, and it looks like fans of the app will yet again spend hours in sweet frustration.

The original Flappy Bird caused quite a stir when it was released, and most players considered it simple enough to be easy. Navigating a struggling bird through a minefield of pipes turned out to be quite frustrating, though, with the game's weird physics and its demand for undivided attention.

Players who reached the high scores tank out due to a variety of reasons: sweaty palms which messed with the smartphone's touch sensor, a sudden call from a contact which throws momentum completely whack, even the slightest distraction which causes the bird to rise too high or too low, running into an obstacle and ending the game.

Don Nguyen, the developer of the new Flappy Bird game, admits his first creation was as addictive as apps get, and decided to pull Flappy Bird off stores, allegedly for that very reason.

Swing Copters is now available, though, and it looks and plays very similar to Flappy Bird. This time, players, navigate a guy with a propeller to the top of the screen.

The character automatically, immediately weaves from side to side after take-off, and the challenge is guiding it so it doesn't run into obstacles flanking the screen, like protruding platforms and swinging hammers.

Nguyen has also mentioned he's developing new version of Flappy Game in a tweet, something multiplayer and less addictive by comparison. Nguyen has received flak for developing a game which looks strikingly similar to a beloved Nintendo video game, also from parents and employees who "wasted" time playing the game instead of focusing on school or work.

Nguyen confirms the new Flappy Bird game Swing Copters will be followed up by Flappy Bird Family, exclusive through Amazon's Fire TV Set-top box (source: usatoday.com)
