The first season of the HBO show True Detective was as dark, chilling, and excellent as they came. It's no wonder that the show has won critical acclaim for its writing, directing, and for the performance of its two A-list Hollywood stars, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
Now the much anticipated second season is just around the corner, and it has large shoes to fill. Plenty of True Detective season 2 spoilers have been floating around the internet, much like all the theories and rumors that the first season's Yellow King has unleashed. But now, word has it that the HBO big boss Michael Lombardo himself has confirmed that the detective show's second season will not be a copycat of the original series. It won't be as dark and brooding as the first one. During the Guardian International Television Festival held in Ediburgh, Scotland, Lombardo said that the filming of the new season will commence this September, and their location is in California.
To lay to rest all the cast and character rumors, which speculated three or four leads in the upcoming season, Lombardo confirmed the True Detective Season 2 spoiler that here will be three lead characters. They will be police officers, and one of them is a woman.
"It's still dark. Nic explores the darkness in people's souls. It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride," Lombardo shared. "Nic likes looking into the crevices of the soul."
Another True Detective season 2 spoiler is that the directorial duties will be split among three to four directors, unlike during the first season which was directed in its entirety by Cary Fukunaga.
As to who the actors who will be playing the three lead roles, there are no confirmations yet, although names that have been linked to these meaty roles are Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, and Saturday Night Lights' Taylor Kitsch.
Announcements are expected to be made soon, so stay tuned.
