Miley Cyrus's Dominican Republic concert is banned on grounds of vulgarity, but the "Bangerz" singer still has the MTV VMAs to look forward to.
Miley Cyrus's Dominican Republic concert is banned, in spite of tickets sold since July. It appears the "We Can't Stop" singer's sexually-suggestive performances crossed the line of the country's moral standards.
A commission says it can't allow Cyrus performance in the Dominican Republic due to the vulgar nature of her shows. An official statement insists the concert "undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law."
It appears Miley's notoriety is deliberately earned, which reached new heights with last year's performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards. Dominican Republic officials would have none of it.
The cancelled show comes with a dilemma of voided tickets, which were available and sold at $27 to $370 since July. Representatives from the singer's camp have yet to release a statement, also the local organizers for the event.
The cancellation of Miley Cyrus's Dominican Republic concert isn't an isolated incident. Her shows receive flak even stateside, where rules of public decency are laxer or more forgiving. Her July 6 televised concert was followed by a wave of complaints from viewers, forcing the FCC to investigate on violations of broadcasting policies.
Cyrus's performances are as sexually-charged as her videos, often involving dancers dressed and performing like strippers. Her twerking and sexually-suggestive antics also makes controversy her norm.
The news preempt the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards, where she is confirmed a performance. While the details of her stint in the show are undisclosed, it is expected she'll pull off something similar to last year's VMAs.
Regarding requests to keep the show and Miley's performance "clean," MTV is open but is not making any promises. Miley Cyrus's Dominican Republic concert may not push through, but there's still the VMAs, with a wider audience reach (credits: sheknows.com)
