32 year old Korean mixed martial artist Dong Hyun Kim has been with the UFC since 2008 and since then, he has been regarded as UFC's toughest welterweights. Kim has an MMA record of 23 total fights, with 19 wins, 2 losses by knockout, 1 draw and one no contests.
All this time in his UFC career, Kim admitted that his main purpose was to survive in the league. He confesses that he was being cautious early in his career. He said "In the early days of my career in the UFC, I was the only Korean fighter. My primary goal was to survive."
He added "I had to survive as the only Korean fighter and I felt like I was responsible for the booming of the UFC in Korea. But now, there are many Korean fighters in the UFC and they are performing well. I will fight like Dong Hyun Kim now. I am not young anymore. I am at the most important time of my career. I could choose to be either one of those seasoned fighters who win some and lose some or gamble and fight aggressively to gain the title shot. I'd rather venture to be aggressive. There is no opportunity for boring fighters."
But now that Kim has already established himself in his chosen career, he is not holding back. Kim has just finished four consecutive winning fights with two of them all finished via a KO. Kim is now off to face Tyron Woodley this coming Saturday in Macau.
Woodley is a determined fighter after losing his last fight via decision against Rory MacDonald. Woodley also has a high regards for Kim saying that Kim deservers more the UFC top five ranking as compared Matt Brown.
Woodley said "I didn't come here thinking it was going to be an easy fight. There are no easy fights in the welterweight division. I'm a top five welterweight in the world, and I've got to prove that every time. I believe he's a top five welterweight too. I think politically... and that some people just aren't aware of his record and resume and who he has beat. I think he's much more deserving to be in the top five than some others, and I don't think he's a 10th ranked welterweight. I think he should be above Matt Brown being that he beat him. He beat freaking Nate Diaz, he beat T.J. Grant, he beat Erick Silva. I think he's a top five welterweight and I believe this will be two guys fighting at a very high level."
