Starring in a reboot of a cult classic film such as the "Point Break" remake is quite intimidating because there's always comparison with the original cast. The Kathryn Bigelow movie has gained many cult followers back in the 90s and it made several names in Hollywood famous such as Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.
Keanu Reeves starred as FBI agent Johnny Utah whereas Patrick Swayze played the surfer/bank robber Bodhi. Fans still want to see the 49-year old actor reprise his role in "Point Break" remake, but he wasn't thrilled by the idea.
During an interview with BBC 5 Live, Reeves was asked if he would like to be involved in the reboot. He said, "Absolutely not. It's not my place." But he still showed support and said, "If they can find a way to do it that works out good, then God bless them."
Instead of choosing another famous Hollywood actor to take over Keanu Reeve's role, the producers chose Australian newbie Luke Bracey. As for Bodhi, the original choice was Gerard Butler, but he backed out thus opening the opportunity for Edgar Ramirez.
The Venezuelan actor has appeared in several Hollywood films and his most recent is "Deliver Us From Evil" where he stars alongside Eric Bana. Now, he is taking another huge role and he shared how he felt about continuing the legacy of Patrick Swayze in Bodhi.
He told The Telegraph, "I'm very excited. I don't necessarily feel pressure, I don't want to put it in those terms. What I feel is it's a privilege." The 37-year old actor said, "There's an amazing and beautiful legacy from the first movie and I just want to have fun and try to have my own experience with it."
Ramirez revealed, "That is one of my favorite movies, I mean, I was pretty much influenced by it, and I couldn't be happier to go on this adventure." The actor also talked about what we can expect in "Point Break" remake.
He said, The spirit of anti-system, the subversion, the rebellion, that's what we're trying to keep up and tell the story that is updated, and that is more sophisticated because it is to our current times, and that is taken on a global scale. So I'm very happy."
Do you think Edgar Ramirez will be able to give justice to Patrick Swayze's role in "Point Break" remake?
