After being missing from New York Jets without any notice, CB Dimitri Patterson has finally emerged from hiding but his future with the Jets is at a limbo.
The Jets has suspended the CB "indefinitely" last Monday after he left the team without informing any of the organization staff. According to General manager John Idzik, Patterson spoke to him and Coach Rex Ryan last Sunday night but he refused to discuss the details of the conversation.
Idzik said "Obviously, Dimitri felt he acted appropriately, but until we discussed it last night, you don't understand. 'And, to be honest, we're still trying to understand all that went behind it. So, I would rather not characterize it."
Idzik said that for now, the indefinite suspension will be short until they have gathered all the information so that they can provide a well informed decision. Patterson did not join the team during last Monday's practice sessions.
Idzik added "'It'll give us a little time to gather more information around what led to his behavior. I think that way, we'll feel like we'll make a very well-informed decision as to what discipline will be forthcoming - and there will be discipline involved."
Idzik doesn't know what the end result will be. The possibility of Patterson having further suspension of even fined or worst, released from the team is still not sure.
He said "'I don't want to say anything one way or the other about the situation because it's a serious situation. How I feel, whatever, I'll just leave as private thoughts right now."
It was last Sunday that Idzik announced that Patterson went MIA then after a few hours, Patterson communicated with Rosenhaus informing that he will come back to speak with Idzik.
Idzik said "The conversations we had with Dimitri will remain private. He presented what led up to that, and basically last night was a listening session for Rex and for me, to understand what went into it. Now that the lines of communication are open, there will be two-way discourse now, which I think will be healthy."
On the other ahnd, Patterson's team mate had no idea that he will be going AWOL during practice. Cornerback Darrin Walls said "Dimitri's a great person and I never expected him not to show for the game. I've never known him to miss anything. He's always on time and he's always present for everything else, so to not see him was kind of a shock."
