The MTV Video Music Awards 2014 was full of highlights, with much talk surrounding Beyonce's stunning performance that wowed the crowd last Sunday at Forum in Inglewood, California. Fans were also surprised with the homeless date who accompanied pop star Miley Cyrus, and were moved by the touching tribute for recently deceased comedian Robin Williams.
A report from Telegraph relived the 20-minute performance of Beyonce, who got the crowd wild by starting her medley with a bold announcement: "MTV, welcome to my world".
The former Destiny's Child member was also awarded with the VMA lifetime achievement recognition, called the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award. Beyonce's husband Jay-Z and 2-year-old daughter Blue Ivy joined her onstage as she emotionally accepted the title, saying: "I have nothing to say but I am filled with so much gratitude".
Also among the MTV Video Music Awards 2014 highlights was the return of pop star Miley Cyrus. The former child star who shocked the world with a raunchy production number during last year's VMAs looked more composed this year, particularly after she was given the Video Of The Year award.
In a surprising twist, Miley Cyrus' date, Jesse, accepted the said award on her behalf.
The former Disney talent was teary eyed when her date revealed to the world that he is homeless: "I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now. I know this because I am one of these people".
A touching tribute for late actor Robin Williams was also among the MTV Video Music Awards 2014 highlights. Reported by Daily Mail, the 20-second tribute showed a montage of the comedian's photos being played to the song "A Sky Full Of Stars" by Coldplay.
The 63-year-old comedian passed away earlier this month after committing suicide at his home in Tiburon, California.
Daily Mail also reported that Rapper Common led another solemn moment during the VMAs as he asked for a moment of silence for Michael Brown, a Missouri teenager shot by police on August 9.
The teenager's death has ensued racial issues in Missouri, addressed by Common in his spiel: "The people in the Ferguson...in St. Louis have used their voices to call for justice and change - to let everyone know that each and every one of our lives matters".
Other lighter MTV Video Music Awards 2014 highlights included the sexy performances reported by Hollywood Life.
Nicki Minaj performed her hit songs "Anaconda" and "Bang Bang" in spite of suffering a wardrobe malfunction. The Young Money rapper held on to her dress towards the end of her production number, much to the glee of the audience.
Taylor Swift's performance to her new single "Shake It Off" also got rave reviews - both for the star singer's vocals and for her sexy outfit which consisted of shimmery, fringed shorts and a cropped top, said Hollywood Life.
