According to anthropology from University of Hawaii, Christine R. Yano, who is a curator of the Hello Kitty Exhibit, the firm who created Hello Kity, Sanrio, told her that Hello Kitty is not a cat; she is cartoon cat-like character. Hello Kitty is a little girl. She is not a cat. She is a friend. She walks and sits like a creature with two legs; she is never depicted on all fours. She have a pet cat named Chammy Kitty.
Yano is curating a Hello Kitty Exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. She was corrected by Sanrio when they saw that she is depicting Hello Kitty as a cat.
What is the implication of this revelation?
Sanrio splits whiskers in this revelation. Although, on the business side, it doesn't really an issue whether what a character licensing firm sees their main asset, but the fans, the children who grew up knowing Hello Kitty is a cat will be frustrated and feel like Sanrio misled them. How can they convince themselves tat Hello Kitty is a person with Twin sister Mimmy and with parents. She is featured as very girly and shy, her interests are dreaming of marriage and sewing
