Finally, a "Friends" reunion show in 2014! Well, sort of; three of the six "Friends" reunite to recreate the 90's NBC sitcom yesterday at Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The mini 'Friends' reunion show for 2014 was as live as it'll ever get, but actress Jennifer Anniston, who played Rachel in the show, was totally unaware it was going to happen.
Anniston was engaged in an interview with Kimmel when he brought up the rumors of a "Friends" reunion show, which persisted for several months now. Kimmel then suggested they do a scene from an episode, and walks off the platform to reveal a set, recreated "down to the last detail."
Anniston was initially taken aback at the surprise. Kimmel even mentioned (jokingly) that he coughed up $80,000 to build the set, a New York flat where many of the scenes from the sitcom was staged.
Jimmy suggested they read lines from a script he prepared, and Jennifer, unaware that a "Friends" reunion show in 2014 is arranged, protested "This is really dumb," to which Jimmy replied: "Is it dumber than living in a huge apartment in New York City for eight years even though you work in a coffee shop?"
Anniston went along with the skit, but turned down Kimmel's suggestion she wear the "Rachel" wig.
As they were reading lines from the script, contemplating how they would make love (in character), Courteney Cox walks into the scene to Jennifer's surprise.
Jennifer comments: "So you're going to drag Courteney into this?"
Jimmy: "But that's not Courteney, that's Monica."
Lisa Kudrow walks into the scene a minute later.
Kimmel took on the role of Ross, and killed the Joey and Chandler characters; the two were supposedly bit by Marcel the monkey and rabies got them.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! skit was as close to a "Friends" reunion show for 2014 as it gets, but may not be enough to put a stop to the rumors of a series reboot (source: usmagazine.com).
