There were plenty of films that had their world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival in Telluride, Colorado. This year, the Weinstein Company again used this festival as the vehicle to launch their newest offering, The Imitation Game, a Benedict Cumberbatch movie based on the life Alan Turing.
Previously, the Weinstein company has launched their Oscar contenders at the Telluride Film Festival, and it proved to be successful in securing the Best Picture wins at the Academy Awards. These include The King's Speech starring Colin Firth, and The Artist.
It helps that that the Benedict Cumberbatch movie, The Imitation Game deals with very compelling subject matter, and it is propped by brilliant performances from its cast. The movie revolves around the real life story of English mathematician and logician Alan Turing, who helped in the second war efforts by cracking the renowned Enigma code. The Enigma code, according to the trailer, is "an unbreakable Nazi code" which would help the Allied Forces win the war. Cumberbatch plays Turing, who is a conflicted genius, plagued by personal issues that will eventually lead to tragic consequences.
This new movie is filled with notable UK actors that are familiar for their work in TV and movies. Keira Knightley is a co-star, as well as Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones) and Allen Leach (Tom Branson on Downton Abbey). It is directed by Morten Tyldum, a Norwegian film director who has won a BAFTA for Best Foreign Language film.
According to Deadline, the premiere screening of this latest Benedict Cumberbatch movie at Telluride's Werner Herzog Theater was packed, and director Morten Tyldum was present to answer questions about his movie, along with producers Ido Ostrowsky, Teddy Scharzman, and Nora Grossman.
