"Supergirl" TV series could be in the works right now. Online reports have indicated that Michael Green, the known producer of "Green Lantern", "Heroes," and "Smallville," intends to produce and write a "Supergirl" TV series.
For years, Supergirl has just stood in the shadow of her cousin, despite having similar skills and strength. Now that Superman, also known as Man of Steel, is being recognized with overwhelming popularity nowadays, it is only safe to assume that his family members will also be gaining a lot of traction.
As reported by Bleeding Cool, a "Supergirl" TV series is a project that DC Entertainment is "actively pitching." Green has been the man behind other successful DC Comics properties, such as "Green Lantern" in 2011 and the recently announced "Flash" movie.
Bleeding Cool did not mention any other details regarding the "Supergirl" TV series, particularly about the exact angle that the show will be developed for. However, despite being an internationally famous character from Krypton, it is not a secret that adapting Supergirl into a TV character will be a challenging task.
Given Green's knowledge on Supergirl, who is also known as Kara Zor-El, many have speculated that the direction that the "Supergirl" TV series is going to take will most likely be a recreation of the "Smallville" premise, but with a female superhero in the lead role.
Green and Mike Johnson are expected to reboot the character of Supergirl by steering clear of Superman from the start. However, knowing the fact that Supergirl does not have an actual family of her own, or even a relative to develop alongside the development of her character, her comic might focus more into the mysteries of Krypton.
Fans believe that if this is the case, the "Supergirl" TV series could end up being very expensive for a standard TV series. Apart from that, it looks like it will also be taking a huge chunk from the big screen story of Superman. Still, fans are hoping that DC and WB can pull it off.
