Joan Rivers news announced today the TV icon's death at the age of 81. According to a report from CNN, Yorkville Endoscopy, the clinic where the "Fashion Police" host had a cardiac arrest, will be investigated.
The comedienne's death comes a week after she was put in a medically induced coma.
Joan River's 46-year-old daughter Melissa Rivers released a written statement to announce her mother's death. "She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends," the statement read.
CNN reported that the TV star's funeral will be held on Sunday at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan. According to the temple's spokeswoman, Elizabeth Fezrine, details have not yet been disclosed regarding the time of the funeral and whether the public will be allowed to attend the service.
As the news site of the comedienne's network, E!Online was one of the first to report about Joan River's cardiac arrest. The "Fashion Police" host reportedly stopped breathing during a minor endoscopic procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy medical clinic.
A source said: "They were putting a scope down her throat to check her vocal cords. She stopped breathing."
Joan Rivers news said an emergency call was made and the comedienne was then rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
Joan Rivers news reported by ABC just a day before her death said the TV icon has been taken out of the hospital's intensive care unit. The statement was issued by Melissa Rivers read: "My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable "
The New York State Department of Health is reportedly investigating Yorkville Endoscopy in relation to the death of Joan Rivers, said CNN.
Julie Bolcer, a spokesperson from the New York medical examiner's office, said: "The cause and manner of (Joan River's) death will be announced at some point."
Yorkville Endoscopy's website describes itself as a "state of the art facility, staffed by highly experienced endoscopists whose mission is to provide safe and compassionate care to patients and their families."
